Although DC Students Speak has an all-student leadership, the organization also receives advice from alumni of DC universities. We are privileged to have these different individuals on our Advisory Board.
Raymond Glendening:
Raymond Glendening is the Chief Strategy Officer of Ruck.us, a tech startup he cofounded with Nathan Daschle. Before Ruck.us, Glendening was the National Political Director of the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) from 2008 through 2010, where he oversaw the DGA's biggest political program ever. Glendening has also worked for Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) political department.
Eric Lashner:
Eric Lashner is a 2005 graduate of the College. During his time on the Hilltop he participated in a number of organizations including Campaign Georgetown, which encouraged Hoyas to register to vote in the District and get involved in local politics. He ran for a position on ANC2E in 2002. Despite his loss he remained active in local politics, interning for Councilmember David Catania and encouraging students to speak up for themselves in local affiars. During his senior year was chairman of the Corp's Board of Directors and was active in the Leadership and Beyond Program. After college he went to law school at Duke University (he still cheers for the Hoyas, though!) and spent a year clerking for the Chief Judge at the United States Court of Federal Claims. He currently is an associate at the international law firm of Hogan Lovells US LLP practicing energy law.
Erin Kilroy:
Erin Kilroy graduated from The Catholic University of America in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and a minor in Psychology. Erin was the first female Chairman of the Catholic University College Democrats, and during her tenure the organization was named the National College Democrats Chapter of the Year. Erin has previously interned for the offices of Senator Barbara Boxer, and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. She currently works at a human rights non-profit in Washington DC.
Bharat Krishnan:
Bharat Krishnan is a Democratic strategist and proud American University alumni. He has worked on numerous campaigns over the last three election cycles, and also has experience working at media and targeting firms. Bharat currently serves as the Deputy Political Director for the Democratic Governors Association.
Jamie Scott:
Jamie Scott is a 2010 graduate of Georgetown University and a current student in the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. He is a regular contributor to Greater Greater Washington and a strong believer in good government and livable communities.
Dave Stroup:
Dave Stroup is a community activist and technology professional who has lived in the District since 2002. Originally from the Chicago area, Dave came to Washington to attend Georgetown University. Since graduating, he has worked for a variety of progressive non-profits. Currently at the Sierra Club, Dave oversees the technology needs of the Club's field organizers. In addition to non-profit work, he is involved in local D.C. politics, most recently working on Bryan Weaver's campaign for at-large member of the D.C. Council
Tobin Van Ostern:
Tobin Van Ostern presently serves as the Network Associate for Campus Progress, a project of the Center for American Progress. In this role he coordinates efforts to train and support young progressive activists throughout the country while also serving as a policy specialist in the areas of health care, national security, and voting rights. He graduated from The George Washington University where he received a degree in International Affairs with a concentration in Conflict and Security and a minor in Political Science.
While enrolled, Tobin used his interest in technology and politics to help found Students for Barack Obama (SFBO) in 2006; serving as Deputy Director in an effort to use Facebook as the launching-point for a grassroots effort to convince Senator Obama to run for President. After accomplishing this initial goal, Tobin became the group's National Director in its capacity as the official student wing of the Obama for America campaign, growing it to 1000 chapters nationwide. The Washington Post later described Tobin as "one of Obama's critical weapons" during the campaign.
